THE CHOIR

The Northern Praeclassica is a small choir, nominally of twenty
members,  based in Newcastle upon Tyne.    It was formed in 1973 by
Iain Ward-Campbell,  primarily to perform music of the 16th Century.

Since then our repertoire has been extended to embrace music from the
11th to the 20th centuries.   Our programmes include sacred, secular,
accompanied, unaccompanied, large and small scale works.

In a typical year we stage three concerts, of which one is on a larger
scale, such as our regular and well-supported performances of the
Messiah in Hexham Abbey.   Most concerts are given in aid of a charity, often with the help of external sponsorship from local businesses.

In addition to these core activities, we have social events such as our annual dinner, recent 30th birthday celebrations, and regular post-concert parties.

We participate in a wide variety of other musical activities including Christmas carol concerts and services, large-scale choral works with other choirs, special church services and celebrations, weddings, and entertainment for private functions.

The choir meets every Monday during school term-times.
